A misericorde is a narrow, pointed dagger used in the Middle ages and built for a grim duty: to deliver a death blow to wounded soldiers, be they enemies or allies. It's long, thin, stiletto blade is designed to penetrate gaps in armour and reach vital organs so as to give a quick and merciful death; from the Latin misericordia meaning 'mercy' or 'pity'. Knights wore the misericorde low on the left hip, ready to slip through visors or into armpits or other chinks in armour where heavier, wider swords proved ineffectual.
This particular misericorde has been proudly assembled by an Australian smith using components from MFC. Every element of this dagger, from the stitching to the assembly, was completed by hand by a skilled craftsperson. It is a truly unique piece, made with attention to detail and a high level of craftsmanship. It is ideal for collectors or re-enactors looking for a unique dagger to wear or display. Please note that this dagger is not intended for use in combat.
