A talwar is a type of curved sword from India. Also spelled talwaar or tulwar, it is the primary weapon of gatka. As with the older khanda, the talwar is revered by Rajputs as a symbol of the god Shiva.

The talwar originated alongside other curved Middle Eastern swords such as the Persian shamshir, the Turkish kilij and the Afghan pulwar; all such swords being originally derived from earlier curved swords developed in Turkic Central Asia. It was introduced to India in the 13th century by invading Muslim powers and was adopted by communities who favoured the sword as their main weapon, including the Rajputs, Sikhs, Punjabis and Marathas. It became more widespread under the Mughals who fought with curved swords from horseback.

Please Note - The scabbard with this sword is rough. There are scratches on the rexine leather, dents in the brass and glue residue. Do not purchase this sword if you wish to display it with the scabbard. The sword is fine the scabbard is not.
