A beautiful and intricate hand and a half sword from 15thC Germany, the Writhen Hilt Sword is an artful diamond in the utilitarian rough of comparable contemporaneous weaponry. The wooden grip, carved to evoke gnarled vines, flows into a similarly twisted brass pommel and quillions that splay in triplicate at each terminal.

The original piece is on display at the Leeds Royal Armouries, in England.

The blade is of diamond cross section, with a distal taper, and features the maker's mark just like the original. The scabbard is constructed of wood wrapped in hard leather, and features a decorative brass chape and neck with trefoil motif.

A wonderful addition to any reenactor's arsenal or personal collection, the Writhen Hilt Sword is technically a German bastard sword, yes, but it is also a work of art. Display it proudly above the mantle, or hang it at your hip.
