Dunmaghlas, ye foes.

The Claymore
is one of the most well known historical weapons of war. The term is an anglicisation of the scottish-gaelic term claidheamh mòr - meaning broad or great sword. The term originally referenced basket hilt swords, but since been adopted to mean the Scottish greatsword as well. Claymores were used extensively in the border skirmishes between England and the highlands from the 1400s to 1700s. If there's ever a weapon unique to the highlands, it's the Scottish Claymore.

A Claymore is denoted, firstly, by its inordinate size, but also by its unique style of crossguard. The quillions are forward sloping as opposed to straight, and they terminate in a quatrefoil style. Like with any greatsword, the handle is long to allow for easy use of the massive blade.

This Claymore in particular is modeled in a royal style, with grand golden embellishment along the crossguard and handle. Several fleur de lys dot the hilt and guard, and the pommel is adorned with a relief of a Unicorn battling with a Lion, signifying the historic tumult in which Scotland and England have almost always been constantly engaged. Several crests adorn the length of the blade, showing allegiance to the united clans of the highlands.

The Royal Claymore comes with a wooden backing plaque, making it perfect for adorning your hall alongside your colours and your thistle.
