If there was any short sword design that influenced Roman swords - it's this one. The La Tène Culture was a European, iron-age culture that had a range of almost all modern Europe. Centered around Gaul, they lasted for a few hundred years until the eventual Roman conquest.
One of the great things we get from La Tène is this shortsword design. As many as 40 types have been discovered in the eponymous dig site in Switzerland, and this is just one of them.
This recreation features a double edged, carbon steel blade, a hardwood grip and pommel, with a steel capped crossguard. The hilt also has many brass adornments. The shortsword also comes with an entirely steel scabbard.
To make this blade suitable for reenactment combat, we at MFC recommend further blunting of the edge and the point.
