This sallet helmet design contrasted with the barbute which was popular in Italy at the same time. Unlike the sallet, the barbute itself protected the jaw and neck. So whereas the gorget or bevor were important counterparts to the sallet, they were usually absent in barbutes. Barbutes did not pivot. Sallets did not share the barbute's resemblance to classical Greek or Roman artifacts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S...
Sallets were generally shallow in form and covering only the upper half of the face, this sallet has a deep profile so it sits low on the face similar to Barbutes and Bascinets.
This combat ready handmade helmet comes with light padding and leather chin strap already fitted. This is a very well designed and constructed piece.
