A buckler is a small shield that is gripped in the fist.
It was generally used as a companion weapon in hand-to-hand combat during the Middle Ages, as its size made it poor protection against missile weapons, such as arrows, but useful in deflecting the blow of an opponent's sword or mace.

This battle ready buckler is made from 1.8mm steel.
A steel handle is attached.

I started making alterations as soon as I received in mail, namely some protective padding for the hand within the boss. I hand sowed heavy cotton and stuffed it with hemp for authenticity. It's nice and snug and should absorb some of the impact. I also intend to add some more domed rivets to the face to give it a more intimidating appearance. In all it is a decent sized buckler and a good price, but the handle is a little unwieldy and requires some mod's to prevent your grip from slipping.
