English style simple steel bowl guard hilt to fit our tang type 2 blades. Ideally suited to sword blanks type 4 and type 6 but will work with all tang type 2 blanks.

To keep the price low for the home sword maker we have kept it raw and could be polished to your required standard but is usable as is. We have tested it and feel it is 100% combat ready under regular use.

Steel bowl thickness: 1.6mm
Guard tang slot: 7mm x 14mm
Length: 210mm
Height: 145mm
Width: 160mm
Weight: 400 grams

Will work well with this grip here. Designed to work with MFC tang type 2 blade blanks and finished with an M8 nut or any MFC M8 threaded pommels.

These look much better with a pattern of drilled holes on the top and side of the bowl.

good solid guard I bought this to replace a Scottish basket hilt that kept snapping and denting. This is a tough guard, fits well and tight so the blade rings.

With a few drill holes and some etching it could be customised to be an officers or nobles sword.

All round good value

Big and Basic This guard is large and suitable for a "munitions grade" weapon. I'd suggest that it would be most appropriate for a cutlas rather than a rapier.
It will provide quite a good level of protection for the hand.
The tang slot cut in the dish is far too large for the blade blanks that MFC have for sale- about 2mm in both planes too big. So, there is a lot of sloppy movement on the blade. This can be addressed in a number of simple ways, however.
This guard provides a really inexpensive way make a practical munitions weapon.
Please, MFC, give us some more blade, hilt and pommel options.
