Exellent for the price. Bought this one for my dad for xmas,he's going to love it.Feels nice in the hand,lovely brasswork and solid blade,great display sword.Might get one for myself later on!

Perfect theatrical sword Just pulled out this cutlass from its wrapping and I am blown away with the quality. Nice and solid, perfect balance (I've not come across an MFC sword with bad balance by the way), nice solid blade and crossguard and it fits like a dream into its scabbard.
While i know this sword will not stand up to continuous rugged use (one wouldnt expect it to for the price) i am looking forward very much to using it for theatrical swordplay.

Looks ain't everything The Naval cutlass I purchased has just been stripped to it's basic components for inspection and cleaning. As a hobby knife maker I like to know how strong my blades should be. I was disappointed to find this cutlass not only had a (too) narrow ratstail tang, but that the metal forming the tang from the ricasso was only about 4cm long, and that a 6mm dia threaded rod had been welded on to form the remaining 11cm of tang. This is not what I would consider a strong enough mount for a sword. I was also mildly disappointed in the thiness of the brass section of the guard protecting the users hand. The shape adds strength, I know, but it still could have been a bit heavier. The important bit protecting the fingers was far better. I would have given this sword a combat rating of either 1-2 or 5-6 based on the descriptions given for those, maybe a compromise combat rating of 3 is in order. Those flaws aside, it is still a beautiful looking sword. It would look great displayed on a wall or as part of a fancy dress outfit, but battle ready?!...I think not!

Naval Cutlass Used In Australian Premiere Musical Greetings to all who read this.
This Naval cutlass was used by the performers in the Australian Premiere of "Blackbeard the Musical". The climax of the show was the sword fight between Blackbeard and Lt Maynard.
I searched for three months for a combat naval cutlass that was ableto be used for stage combat. I found nothing. I contacted Medieval Fight-Club. They created this sword for me. It withstood two months of solid sword rehearsals and the two shows. It stayed solid throughout. Indents into the blade had to be taken out but overall this sword is fully usable for both the re enactor or stage actor.
