Dura-Europos was a fortress city originally founded in 303 BC on the bank of the Euphrates River (modern day Syria) and was captured by the Romans in 165 AD. Its geographical location at the crossroad of different empires allowed for a broad mingling of cultures and traditions.

Dura-Europos was also an excavation site during the early 1900s, and this dagger is a recreation of blade and scabbard fragments found during the dig. This dagger, believed to be from the Late Roman era, is of a unique design. It's blade is single edged and narrow, in stark contrast to the Early Imperial Pugio. The grip is hardwood and is flanked with a brass collar and pommel. The red wood and leather sheath is affixed with a decorative brass open-work panel, to which two brass baldric rings and a matching red leather cord is attached.

We at MFC recommend further blunting of the blade and point before use in reenactment combat.
