A gorget is a steel collar designed to protect the throat. It is intended to protect against swords and other non-projectile weapons. Most medieval versions of gorgets were simple neck protectors that were worn under the breastplate and backplate set.

This gorget protects more than just the throat. It extends into 3 sections to cover the throat, nose and cheeks, and finally eyes if need be. It secures each section in place via button locking pins.

Neck circumference: 47cm - 65cm (via adjustable strap at rear of neck)

Length of chest protection: 16cm
Height of face protection from neck:18cm

Gauge: 1.6mm (16ga)
Weight: 1.4kg

Gorgets demonstrated a very effective method of protection which has been confirmed by extensive use. A gorget was habitually used as the only piece of armour during the 16th and 17th C. It was also sometimes used as a demonstration of status.
