Sabres have been in use for centuries now, especially as infantry and cavalry weapons, and in more modern times as a mark of an officer. Whilst curved, single edged blades have existed since swords were first made, the recognisable "sabre" design emerged in the Eurasian steppes, later spreading to Europe in the 9thC with the Magyars and Turks.

This particular sabre has a design that may come from two areas: Britain or France, in the 19thC. Both countries used sabres as standard issue and officer blades, with varying patterns and design changes over the century. This sabre pattern is distinct as it features a fuller and a quill point, which is indicative of two historical patterns, either the French 1822 or the British 1845. The designs are fairly similar, as is understandable between two neighbouring nations, incorporating a curved bar hilt and slight curved blade.

This blade is quite stylish (likely destined to belong to an officer) featuring the aesthetically pleasing curved bar hilt, but also filigree style patterning up the blade length, and an ergonomic grip. The scabbard is polished steel, and features two rings for attaching to a baldric. The sabre also comes with a tan cloth cover for safe storage.
