Kubb is a lawn game that can be played on a variety of surfaces such as grass, sand, concrete, snow, or even ice. The object is to knock over the wooden blocks (kubbs) on the opposite side and then finally knock over the King - before the oppostion does it to your side. It has been described as Viking Chess as there is a level of strategy that can be employed - or you can simply just throw the batons at random. Some have described it as a combination of bowling and coits (horseshoes).

MFC Kubb has twenty-one light wooden game pieces:

  • Ten Kubbs, rectangular wooden blocks - square on the end.
  • One King, a larger wooden piece - square on the end.
  • Six round throwing batons.
  • Four marking pins, to designate the corners of the playing area.

Kubb comes from the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea.
All our pieces are sanded with round edges. Each piece is made from Australasian sustainable pine.

How to setup and play:

Setup your field with the corner markers placed by forming a rectangle 5m wide and 8m long.
Place the king in the middle of the rectangle forming two exact halves to the game.
Place 5 team kubbs on each back or base line. i.e. 5 per side.
Players stand on the baseline behind their kubbs.
To begin play one team attacks by throwing a baton underarm at the opponents kubb, it cannot be thrown overarm or by spinning in a helicopter fashion.
Defending Kubbs that have been overturned have no "joined the game" and are called 'field kubbs', unaffected kubbs are known as 'base kubbs'.
Field kubbs are then returned to play by tossing them strategically into the opposition side.
