The poleyn was a component of Medieval and Renaissance armour that protected the knee. During the transition from mail armour to plate armour, this was among the earliest plate components to develop. They first appeared in the mid-thirteenth century and during the fifteenth century poleyns developed an articulated construction that attached to the cuisses, schynbalds or greaves. A characteristic of late fifteenth century gothic armour was a projection that guarded the side of the knee.

Good quality, a little on the large side but can be crushed for a better fit, where these really fail is the articulation, I can only bend my leg 90 degrees at best

poleyns I bought a pair of these about a year and a half ago, and until recently used them fairly regularly.

Here's the good: First, they were cheap compared to custom made stuff.
These are tanks, I could take full power shots to the knee and barely feel it.
They were comfortable, and fitted well.

Here's the not-so-good. The original straps were of inferior leather, and I actually tore one, so I switched out all the straps.
The articulation could be improved, on my pair the inner plates were not rounded enough on the sides which made them slow to articulate until I messed around with them.

Overall I give these 4 stars, they are very good for off the shelf armour.
