This spectacular crested helm originally appeared in a more primitive form in Greece around 350 BC, but saw its most popular use during the Roman Empire. It saw service with Legionnaires, Centurions and Legates up to 400 AD and varied from plain to decorative.
This black version is adorned with a handsome crest fit for any officer and fine detail. This helm is padded and lined with material on cheek plates and crown.
A tie is used to secure cheek plates under the chin when worn.
Circumference - approx. 720mm
Height including crest - approx. 400mm
Although it does not represent any specific helmet, the style appears in many art artifacts throughout Greek, Roman, Etruscan and Samnite history. A must for any collector of fine militaria.
